About Emergy

Different rooms. A connected perspective.

I’m Emergy Thompson, Business Growth & Personal Development Strategist.

My work brings together commercial experience, an understanding of people and the practical discipline required to turn decisions into action.

I help established service-based businesses, founders and ministry leaders examine what is restricting progress and determine what needs to happen next.

My work with people came first.

I trained as a life coach in 2004.

For the next 12 years, I coached women during evenings and weekends while building my career in corporate sales during the day.

Life coaching taught me how to listen beyond the first answer, question assumptions and help people move from reflection into action.

Sales taught me how businesses grow, how decisions are made and what it takes to turn value into revenue.

During my corporate career, I progressed from trainee to Sales Director. I developed business, recruited and led teams, and managed performance in environments where results, relationships and commercial judgement mattered every day.

“I was developing people in both rooms, but from different sides of the table.”

In 2016, the two worlds became one.

I moved fully into business coaching, bringing my experience of developing people into the practical work of building businesses.

Since then, my work has included helping clients shape their ideas, develop offers, clarify their positioning, strengthen their visibility and organise what needs to happen next.

Over time, I became increasingly interested in the relationship between the business and the person leading it.

A sound strategy can struggle when decisions remain unresolved. A capable founder can become overwhelmed by a business whose structure no longer supports its demands.

Knowing where to focus matters.

A brilliant idea still needs somewhere practical to live.

I am a certified Project Manager and Business Analyst.

That training strengthened how I examine problems, clarify requirements and turn broad ambitions into organised work.

It is why I ask what we are trying to achieve, what evidence we have and what needs to happen first.

A strategy needs to account for the people, resources and responsibilities required to carry it out.

The person behind the decisions matters too.

I am currently in the final year of my psychotherapy training.

This deepens an interest in people that began when I first trained as a life coach more than 20 years ago. It informs how I think about behaviour, identity, relationships and the patterns that can influence our decisions.

It does not mean every business problem requires a psychological explanation.

Sometimes the price is wrong. Sometimes the message is unclear. Sometimes the process does not work.

My approach considers the commercial reality, the practical requirements and, where relevant, how the person leading the business is responding.

My consultancy and coaching are distinct from psychotherapy.

The Philosophy

Internal Success Meets External Success.

Business growth. Leadership. Internal success.
These belong in the same conversation.

Success should feel as good as it looks.

This is the thinking behind OWNED, the philosophy that underpins my work. Owned, Not Owed. Recognising the responsibilities that are genuinely ours, questioning the expectations we have absorbed and making considered choices about what happens next.

We cannot control every circumstance, but we can examine our influence, make considered decisions and take responsibility for how we participate in what happens next.

That includes the business we build and our experience of leading it.

We can receive support without surrendering our authority. Understand what shaped us while questioning whether it should continue to direct our choices.

Warmth and honest challenge can share a room.

I will listen carefully. I will also question an idea when I believe it needs examining.

You can expect direct conversations, thoughtful challenge and attention to what the work will require in practice.

I am interested in helping you understand the problem, make a considered decision and follow through.

The purpose is to strengthen your judgement and capacity to lead.
